Stars Eager to be the Next ‘Dancing’ Contestants

Tori Spelling Hot on the heels of the Dancing with the Stars finale, rumors are already flying about who will be hoofing it on the fifth season. Of course, there aren’t any super high-profile names being batted about, but if it takes a popular dance contest to get their name back in the spotlight, it’s worth it. First up is “Scary Spice”, Melanie Brown, whose claim to fame these days is discovering whether or not Eddie Murphy is the father of her baby. Will her former Spice Girls experience aid her in the quest for the shiny disco ball trophy? Tori Spelling would certainly like to give Brown a run for her money—she’s said to be in “discussions” with the show’s producers. Stay tuned, because there are likely to be more B-list celebs and athletes coming out of the woodwork to step out on the dance floor. The next season won’t begin until Fall 2007, so we have the whole summer to speculate who will make the cast.

Dancing With the Stars Host Announces Pregnancy

Samantha HarrisSparkling E! News correspondent and Dancing With the Stars co-host, Samantha Harris, revealed that she’s pregnant with her first child. She and husband Michael will welcome the new bundle this fall. Harris said of the news, “My husband, Michael, and I are so excited to have our first baby. This is a delightful time in our lives.” I guess she had to spill the beans because she’s been looking a bit more busty these days and people wondered if she had some plastic surgery done. She set the surgery rumors to rest, saying, “I did not get a boob job, but I have put on a little weight because I am happy to finally say I am pregnant.” She’s not quitting either of her jobs just yet, with Dancing grabbing 18.2 million viewers last week, she is sittin’ pretty. Looking forward to seeing what the wardrobe folks do with her growing waistline, though.

Mario Lopez Lands Role on CW Pilot

Mario Lopez With all of the exposure that Mario Lopez got from Dancing With the Stars, it was only a matter of time before he’d land on a TV series. Word is that he’ll co-star with singer Christina Milian in a comedy pilot for the CW, called Eight Days a Week. The show is about twentysomethings in their New York working environments, with Lopez playing a sharp-dressed boss and Milian taking on the role of an assistant. Johnny Lewis and Robert Ri’chard will also play assistants—Lewis to a rock-band publicist, and Ri’chard to Lopez’s character. Since Lopez appeared on Dancing With the Stars, his career has experienced some upticks, including duties as a co-host and correspondent of the entertainment news show Extra and taking on hosting responsibilities for the 2007 Miss America pageant.

Heather Mills Wanted Gay Dancing Partner

Heather Mills Oh, Heather Mills… the latest news of the Dancing with the Stars contestant is that she had hoped for a gay dance partner to avoid the media rumor mills about a potential love match. “I said, ‘As long as [my partner’s] gay, great.’  Because I’ve had all these rumors of these different lovers and none of the enjoyment. I haven’t had anybody for 10 months. So I was like you know, ‘Send me someone gay,’” said Mills during her interview last night on Jimmy Kimmel. Well, her partner isn’t gay, but he is married to his regular dance partner, so that should keep the media at bay. Why such a high opinion of herself? From interviews I’ve seen of her and a brief glance at her on Dancing with the Stars, she seems to be milking all of the attention.

American Idol Goes Long to Compete With ‘Dancing’

American Idol logo American Idol, in an effort to steal Dancing with the Stars’ thunder, will add seven minutes to Tuesday’s show. How does this impact Dancing? Idol will potentially pull viewers from the first seven minutes of Dancing with the Stars—pretty sneaky, huh. Why go to these lengths? Is it to better showcase the Top 10 and guest Gwen Stefani? Or just a nanny-nanny-boo-boo move? I’m sure they need those extra seven minutes because typically these Tuesday night shows have been running two hours. And that’s just too dang much! We’ll have to see how ratings fare because both shows are immensely popular right now. House, by the way, will follow Idol at 9:08. I know that’s screwy, but as an Idol watcher (can’t say fan, really), those two hour shows are brutal!

(You can find all the American Idol 6 posts here.)

Dancing With the Stars Kicks Off Tonight

Cheryl Burke Don’t forget—the fourth season of Dancing With the Stars begins tonight. Place your bets… who’s going to go the distance, and will dancer Cheryl Burke add a third trophy to her case? Burke won the last two competitions with partners Drew Lachey and Emmitt Smith, but doesn’t feel the pressure to win this time. Burke told People magazine, “It’s about who I’m dancing with and making my partner the best dancer he can possibly be.” Or maybe it’s because the trophy is a hunk of junk. She also told the magazine, “Both [trophies] are falling to pieces, by the way. The mirrors are slowly falling off.” Check out the competition tonight, when she and partner Ian Ziering take to the dance floor. Filling out the cast are Heather Mills, Billy Ray Cyrus, Joey Fatone, Apolo Anton Ohno, Laila Ali, Clyde Drexler, John Ratzenberger, Shandi Finnessey, Leeza Gibbons and Paulina Porizkova.

Jerry Springer Takes Over at ‘America’s Got Talent’

Jerry Springer Ever the busy man, Regis Philbin has decided to pass the hosting duties of America’s Got Talent to fellow daytime talk icon Jerry Springer. Springer, fresh from his stint on Dancing With the Stars, will certainly have his hands full with the popular talent competition. Craig Plestis, from NBC, said in an announcement that Springer will be “the perfect ringmaster” for the show. He commented, “To say the least, he is known for presiding over an unpredictable show where the unexpected is the typical order of each day.” Springer commented on the new hosting gig, saying, “I’ve been around some of America’s most talented individuals on my talk show, so I’ll feel right at home hosting America’s Got Talent.” Philbin cited the “heavy travel schedule” as the cause for stepping down. We wonder if he’s just trying to keep his distance from David Hasselhoff (a.k.a. The Hoff).

John Ratzenberger to Fill in on ‘Dancing’

Posted by Wendy Michaels Categories: Prime Time, Reality, ABC, Rumors,

John RatzenbergerVincent Pastore bailed on Dancing With the Stars after he realized that it would require physical activity. Luckily, Dancing was able to fill the void left by Pastore by recruiting John Ratzenberger, famous for his role of Cliff Claven on Cheers, as well as a multitude of Pixar film voice work. Pastore left after just one week of rehearsals when he discovered that it was a bit more than what he signed on for. Ratzenberger, 59, was asked to appear on the dance competition before, but had to turn it down due to a scheduling conflict. It’s good that he was free this go-around, and able to slip in quickly at the last minute. Tune in on March 19 to see how Ratzenberger and fellow Dancing contestants Joey Fatone, Billy Ray Cyrus, Heather Mills, and others make out in the big dance-off.

Vincent Pastore Ditches Dancing With the Stars

Vincent PastoreSo, the Dancing With the Stars lineup was in place—when, just as we are poised to begin season four on March 19th, one of the contestants drops out. That’s right, Vincent Pastore, of The Sopranos, has decided to leave the dance competition. And why? Because he found out that it’s more strenuous than he anticipated. You would think after his weight loss on Celebrity Fit Club that he would be in decent enough shape to tackle this challenge. The contestants have only been in training for one week, so I guess it’s good that he came to this realization now… then again, how could you not think that this ballroom dance-off was going to be easy? “When I initially committed to joining Dancing with the Stars I didn’t realize just how physically demanding it would be for me,” Pastore said. “Unable to put forth my best effort, I felt it appropriate to step aside and give someone else the opportunity.” The producers are a-ok with this decision, saying that they “respect his decision.” So now the question is—who will fill those big shoes? Does Dancing With the Stars have understudies? Or will the show go on with one less celebrity?
